Company Ceases Ops After 65 Years of Service To GA
We can't say the news is a surprise as we all know that the
economy is still in a state of significant turmoil and the avionics
world, after all, is a tough one even in the best of times. Still;
it's a sad sign of the times when a name that we all grew up with,
as pilots, finally Goes West.
Narco Avionics has shut down... ending a 65 year run that saw it
work as a major player in the avionics industry for a number of
decades and then slowly but surely fade away.
The Narco Avionics website says little, simply noting that, "Due
to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to inform you that
after over 65 years in business, Narco Avionics, Inc. has closed. A
trustee will be appointed shortly to oversee liquidation of assets
and assure return of Customer's property, such as Customer's Radios
sent to Narco for service, as soon as possible. We are extremely
sorry for the inconvenience this causes and thank all loyal Narco
Customers, around the world, for their loyalty over all of these
years! Please monitor this web site as informational updates will
be provided as soon as possible."
Narco had made a number of attempts at a comeback over the
years, but a lack of funds and a far more competitive development
environment made their aspirations unlikely. One of their recent
and more successful collaborations was with XCOM,
but Michael Coates tells ANN that the shut-down should have no
impact on their operations.

Narco was a significant presence in GA cockpits as I was working
my way up the ranks as a new pilot back in the 70s... and while
their gear has become rarer over the years, the company leaves a
significant legacy... I hate to see them go. -- Jim Campbell, ANN
