Super Legend To Debut At Oshkosh

Legend Cub Airframe Fitted With New Flapped Wing, Multi-Fuel Engine

American Legend Aircraft Company announced Monday that its prototype Super Legend is undergoing final preparations for a public debut at AirVenture Oshkosh on July 25th.

Announced in April, the Super Legend takes the renowned Legend Cub one step further. “Mating the Legend Cub airframe with a new flapped wing, a 115-horsepower Lycoming O-233 multi-fuel engine and SuperCub tail feathers creates the ultimate two-seat S-LSA backcountry airplane,” said Darin Hart, president of American Legend. That’s what discernible from the outside. Under the paint are new lightweight carbon fiber doors, cowling and interior panels, an adjustable body conforming seat, and much more.

This week the prototype Super Legend exited the covering and paint shop, and is undergoing final assembly. According to Hart, “The Super Legend is the ideal aircraft for adventure pilots looking for realistic, extra performance without limitations. With the same power-to-weight ratio of a traditional Super Cub, the new Super Legend is an outstanding performer.” Lots of new features have been incorporated into the aircraft. “With an external baggage door, a folding and removable rear seat, a fully adjustable front seat, the Super Legend provides comfort along with the extra utility desired by backcountry pilots,” he added. With 32 gallons of fuel capacity, mated to the efficient Lycoming O-233 engine, the Super Legend has five hours of endurance plus a healthy reserve. Additionally, the Lycoming O-233 engine can use automotive gasoline. With aviation fuel sources being challenged, the new Lycoming engine provides pilots with long-term fuel options.

Next step for the Super Legend is the installation of its interior, instrument panel and other components, and mating of the engine and propeller to the airframe. According to Hart, “It has taken a huge team effort to bring the project this far. We’re especially grateful to our launch customers who provided the impetus and input to make this a great airplane.” The Super Legend introductory price of $139,900 is valid only for orders placed before July 31, 2011.
