Nose Gear Collapses on FAA King Air

Ouch!

Runway 6/24 at Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, CT was shut down for 3 1/2 hours Friday afternoon after the landing gear on a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-owned King Air collapsed on the landing roll.

Nobody was injured, and the Associated Press reported that flights were moved to a secondary runway (presumably 15/33).

"The airport stayed open the entire time," said airport spokesman John Wallace.

FAA Spokesman Jim Peters said two FAA inspectors were practicing touch-and-go landings in the seven-seat Beechcraft King Air 90.

While the Associated Press called the incident a "crash landing," Peters said, "The gear was fully extended and they were taxiing when it collapsed." For our purposes, let's call it a taxiing incident.

Peters did not release the names of the two licensed pilots, and said the FAA would investigate the cause of the nose gear failure.

Neither inspector was injured in the incident, and Wallace said the plane seemed to suffer only minor visible damage.
