Knives on Airplanes

Provided by Airlines

The TSA quietly started letting airlines again serve their passengers meals fit to cut with a knife -- a real knife.

Northwest Airlines, earlier this week, delighted First Class PAX with the surprise: now they get a set of stainless steel flatware, including a knife.

Why the TSA figured the table knives were dangerous weapons, and the stainless spoons and forks weren't, is anyone's guess; but it's a problem no longer: the stainless steel knives are allowed.

Under certain conditions.

The knives are to be entrusted only to First Class passengers. That's not a TSA rule; there just isn't anything the low-fare PAX are served, that could require a knife. It's finger food only, for 'steerage' customers. [Perhaps they'll give the back-seaters hammers --ed.]

Also, you still can't bring your own knives on board. The TSA must figure that if the terrorists don't know what the meal will be, they won't ride. And terrorists never ride up front. That's reserved for golf pros, overly-broad people, and the Air Marshals.
