Found on Rugged Green Peak
The
wreckage of the C-172 that teenager Chezray Hayes was flying was
spotted just after 7AM Monday, about 1500 feet up, surrounded by
the lush green. He had been missing since Saturday, when he had
left, solo, on a trip from Honolulu to Maui.
The young man was an enthusiastic flier, and had already logged
some 30 hours' volunteer time, flying for the CAP. Recovery, from
the forbidding Manuahi Ridge, on Moloka'i's northeast shore, had to
be made on foot; the terrain and turbulent air made a helicopter
recovery unsafe.
