Airborne 08.16.21: EAA v FAA, Heli Busted Over Ice Cream, Butterfly eVTOL

Also: Cygnus Spacecraft, Even More Starliner Problems, Iridium and Honeywell, Inmarsat Upgrades L-Band

After the FAA administrator spoke at Oshkosh, EAA is asking its members to rally and provide a unified voice with our elected officials. Earlier this year, a federal court determined that compensated flight instruction in experimental, limited, and primary category aircraft, even instruction obtained in an individual’s own aircraft, was contrary to FAA regulation. While the FAA has used letters of deviation authority (LODAs) and exemptions to temporarily address the issue, a long-term fix is years away under the normal rulemaking process. We all

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (08.19.21)

“ALPA supports the federal government’s mask mandate extension. Since facial coverings have been proven to help stop the spread of COVID-19, this common sense approach to mandate compliance with public health guidelines will help ensure the safety and health of crewmembers on every flight. Additionally, layered prevention strategies such as wearing a mask and receiving a COVID-19 vaccination, as recommended by the CDC, will also help protect the airline industry’s path to economic recovery.” Source: The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) issued a statement on the federal government’s announcement it will extend its mask mandate through Jan. 18, 2022.
