Airborne 08.10.20: 1st US Panthera, ULA and SpaceX, New 99s Prez

Pipistrel-USA dealer, Right Rudder Aviation, has just taken delivery of a new Pipistrel Panthera high-performance four place aircraft -- the first of its kind in all of North America. Right Rudder Aviation is an FBO/Flight School/Aircraft Dealer based at the Inverness Airport in Inverness, FL. The Panthera is one of the curviest aircraft to hit the scene in quite a while -- and a potential Cirrus killer. A composite (much of it carbon-fiber) four-place with tricycle retractable gear, a T-Tail, and an all-glass panel, the basics of this aircraft boast 1000NM range, 200 kts and at 10GPH. It has a full-fuel payload of 760 pounds. An airframe parachute system is part of the package.

Corbi Bulluck Will Serve As International President for 2020-2022

The Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots, announced the installation of Corbi Bulluck as International President for 2020-2022. In a first for the 90-year-old organization, Bulluck, a North Carolina native, was installed via a virtual ceremony after the July annual meeting, scheduled for Long Beach, CA, was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bulluck previously served as Vice-President, Director, and several committees including Chairman of Strategic Planning. She designed the framework for Friends of The 99s, a separate nonprofit organization formed to support The 99s. She also served as Governor of the 8-state Southeast Section.

Bids For Possible Sites Will Be Accepted Until 08/12

2020 has been tough on the aviation event community. The US Parachute Association explains that it is still determining whether a 2020 USPA Nationals can be conducted safely and if so, how. USPA is exploring options while trying to ensure competitors in all disciplines/events have an opportunity to compete. After the Competition Committee of the USPA Board met on July 30, it was decided that Skydive City Zephyrhills in Florida would no longer host the 2020 USPA National Skydiving and Parachuting Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic...

The Vanderhoof Folks Really Don't Know When To Quit

Years ago, I journeyed well North of Seattle to go to a funky little airshows in the middle of nowhere... Vanderhoof, British Columbia, to be exact. It turned out to be the best little airshow I'd been to... before or since. I keep promising myself to go back, even though it's been decades since that great few days, and maybe I will... because the folks running the show right now still seem tremendously motivated to keep the show and its indomitable spirit alive.

BAA Training is going forward with expansion in Spain. A global aviation training provider is establishing a 5300-square-meter training center near Barcelona–El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport. On July 20, 2020, about 0938 Pacific daylight time, a McDonnell Douglas 600N helicopter, N745BW, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near San Andreas, California.
