Second Mission For Vega Booster Delivers Three Satellites

Spacecraft Placed In Two Sun-Synchronous Orbits During Two-Hour Flight

Arianespace’s light-lift Vega launcher performed an intricate mission from the Spaceport in French Guiana Tuesday, successfully delivering three satellite passengers at two different Sun-synchronous orbital altitudes during a flight lasting just over two hours. It was Vega’s second mission from the spaceport, and further demonstrated the capabilities of a vehicle that completes Arianespace’s launcher family – joining its medium-lift Soyuz and heavyweight Ariane 5.

DOT Inspector General Says FAA Faces Challenges On Repair Station Rules

Final Report Issued Last Week Concerning Risk-Based Oversight

On May 1, 2013, the DOT Inspector General issued its final report on the FAA's risk-based oversight of aircraft repair stations. Currently, FAA is responsible for overseeing nearly 4,800 repair stations used worldwide by U.S air carriers. The IG found that while FAA developed a risk assessment process to aid repair station inspectors in identifying areas of greatest concern, its oversight continues to emphasize completing mandatory inspections instead of targeting resources where they are needed based on risk.
