Osprey Accident Leaves Five Injured

No Fatalities When The V-22 Tilt-Rotor Went Down In Florida

An Air Force CV-22 Osprey assigned to the 1st Special Operations Wing went down at approximately 1845 EDT June 13 on the Eglin Range, north of Navarre, FL. Five crew members aboard the aircraft were taken to local area hospitals, but there were no reported fatalities.

London Air Services Orders Five Learjet 75s

First Canadian Launch Customer For The New Aircraft

A firm order for five Learjet 75 aircraft has been placed by London Air Services (LAS), according to a news release from Bombardier. The order is valued at approximately $65 million based on the 2012 list price for typically equipped aircraft. LAS is the first Canadian operator to place a firm order for the new light jet.

Alaska Airlines, Machinists Reach Tentative Agreement

Six-Year Contract Covers Carrier's Ramp Service And Stores Agents

Alaska Airlines and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) jointly announced Tuesday they have reached tentative agreement on a new six-year contract covering the carrier's 587 ramp service and stores agents. The agreement includes wage increases of 10 percent over the life of the contract, long-term incentive bonuses, and job security and improved productivity provisions.

AAR Selected To Extend Airlift Support For U.S. Military

Largest Airlift Provider In Afghanistan Chosen To Renew Support Of DoD Operations

The United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) has exercised a renewal option for AAR to provide airlift support in Afghanistan through May 31 of 2013. The option has a value of $104 million and is part of a task order awarded to AAR in June 2010.

Council Voted 7-1 Against FAA-Approved Practice Space

The city council in Morris, IL, voted 7-1 against the placement of an aerobatic practice box near the Morris Municipal Airport June 6th. The box, which encompasses an area covering 3,600 feet by 3,600 feet up to 5,000 AGL was approved by the FAA in May.

Seaplane Airline Begins Bimini Service From South Florida

Tropic Ocean Airways Launches Regular Seaplane Flights From The Miami Seaplane Base To North Bimini, Bahamas

South Florida’s seaplane airline Tropic Ocean Airways said Wednesday it has begun regular service between the Miami Seaplane Base and North Bimini. The airline, which began regular service four days per week to the Bahamian island from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) in March, added the Miami Seaplane Base as a stop on its regular route. Flights will depart FLL and stop in Miami prior to the short yet scenic 30 minute flight to North Bimini.

Anaheim Mayor Says 'Not So Fast' On Airplane Purchase

City Had Plans For A Cessna Grand Caravan

The Mayor of Anaheim, CA, has put the (air) brakes on the city's planned $2.2 million purchase of a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan. Mayor Tom Tait says he needs more information before he can approve the purchase. The city had green-lighted the acquisition last month, saying there was a strong public safety case made for the purchase of the aircraft.

DOT IG Finds U.S. Customs Missing UAV Support Equipment

Says Agency Has Not Property Budgeted For Use Of Its Unmanned Aircraft

The inspector general (IG) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warned U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP) on June 11 that it has not adequately obtained resources to support its unmanned drones, while also admonishing the agency for failing to properly plan for use of the aircraft. CBP’s Office of Air and Marine has never appropriately budgeted and acquired all of the necessary resources to support its 10 existing and planned UAV aircraft, said the IG report.
