Oshkosh-Bound F-86 Down In Hickory, NC; Pilot Did Not Survive

The name, "Flying Fossil," was a jaunty thumb in the eye of the plane's age, but the F-86 Sabrejet fighter was restored to like-new condition throughout. Despite that, it remained a 1950s aircraft, with 1950s technology; and jets of that time had a safety record unlike their modern descendants. That safety record is a hair worse today, after the vintage fighter crashed and burned on takeoff at 11:40 AM Monday, killing pilot Wyatt Fuller.

"It's beautiful!" Cessna President and CEO Jack Pelton beamed from the podium as the audience reacted to the latest Cessna rollout. The introduction was as choreographed as a Thunderbirds performance or a display of the Marine Corps Precision Drill Team -- or a Citation introduction -- but this time it's wasn't a multi-million-dollar jet.

Flies By Intro Of SLSA Proof Of Concept

Eclipse Aviation tells ANN that the maiden flight of its first customer aircraft took place on Sunday. This jet flew for 1.5 hours while reaching Mach 0.62 and climbing to its maximum altitude of 41,000 feet. All systems were operated multiple times without any flaws.

Questair Offers Improved Model

Questair LLC, of Sandpoint, ID has brought their prototype Kodiak back to AirVenture this year. Questair is marketing the Kodiak as a rugged, backcountry aircraft with the capability to operate from unimproved runways.

Orders A350XWB... And More A380s

It took a couple of days, but it seems at least some airlines are coming around to Airbus's way of thinking about the new and improved A350. Asian giant Singapore Airlines says it's placed an order for 20 A350 XWB aircraft, and added to its initial order for the super-jumbo A380 by ordering nine more of them.
