Maintenance Test Flight Gets A Little Out Of Control
The NTSB has just filed a preliminary report on a Hawker
125-800A maintenance test flight that got more than a little out of
hand... with a stall that not only required aggressive recovery,
but apparently a recovery that at some points, was conducted in IFR
conditions. Read the NTSB Prelim and see if you don't get that same
"Pucker" sensation we got when reading this thing.

Symphony Aircraft Industries (SAI) announced Tuesday that -- as
part of its partnership with Skyline Aeronautics, a leader in the
development and delivery of FAA Industry Training Standards and
Technically Advanced Aircraft programs -- its SA160 two-place
aircraft has been approved for FITS and Part 141 acceptance for the
two Symphony/Avidyne TAA Transition Training Programs.
Could such storied aerospace parthenons as Florida's Cape
Canaveral, and Russia's Baikonur Cosmodrome soon be joined by
spaceflight centers in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas?
They are often bitter competitors... but when you get right down

German aircraft engine manufacturer Thielert Aircraft Engines
GmbH, subsidiary of Thielert AG, announced Tuesday the launch of a
major product offensive at the Berlin Air Show. In addition to the

SUMMARY: The FAA is superseding an existing airworthiness
directive (AD), which applies to certain Boeing Model 767-200,
-300, and -300F series airplanes.
The Aero-News Network (ANN), the Aviation World’s DAILY

has been selected by the 2006 NW EAA Fly-In in Arlington,
Washington, as their official news service for the world-renowned
five day event.
The pilot of a Skybolt aerobatic biplane was killed Sunday
evening in Coweta County, GA when witnesses say his plane entered a
loop, and then came straight down. The pilot had been performing
aerobatics before the accident occurred.
The United States Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds,
performed their 4,000th air show May 13 at Robins Air Force Base,
Ga. The show was the team's 14th of the 2006 season. “We
perform about 70 air shows throughout the year, representing the
530,000 men and women in our Air Force,” said Lt. Col. Kevin
Robbins, Thunderbirds commander.
On Monday, representatives with the Experimental Aircraft
Association told ANN the Douglas DC-3, "Duggy" -- known as "The
Smile in the Sky" that helps young people discover the world of
flight, and quite possibly the world's friendliest DC-3 -- is
scheduled to return to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2006.
Sporty’s Pilot Shop is turning to its customers again to
determine which airplane to feature on its popular series of
annual, limited-edition Christmas Ornaments. "Our customers voted
for the Cessna 195 last year, which was a very popular Ornament, so
we’re asking them to choose again,” says Sporty’s
Vice President John Zimmerman.
Aero-News has learned that General Electric has finalized
the architectural design for the GEnx engine that will power
Boeing's recently launched 747-8 Intercontinental and freighter

Several announcements came out of Green Bay, WI during the last
two weeks -- including news that the Wisconsin Aviation

Last week, Congress completed consideration of the Tax Relief
Extension Reconciliation Act of 2005, striking two onerous
provisions for business aviation in the process. One proposal would
have expanded limitations on entertainment use of business aircraft
to all employees, rather than just senior executives.
North American Airlines has confirmed that a full and complete
settlement has been reached, totaling $2.3 million, to resolve a
California lawsuit filed by former pilot Randall Otto.
L-3 Communications Avionics Systems (L-3 Avionics), a subsidiary
of L-3 Communications Corporation, announced last week that it has
expanded its business operations by opening a unique facility and
key talent center in Phoenix, AZ.
FAA reserve fuel requirements are for preflight planning
purposes only, and are barely adequate to assure a modicum of
safety if things don't go precisely as planned.
