XM Satellite Radio has
announced that AvMap will offer XM WX Satellite Weather as an
option on their top-of-the-line portable navigation systems
including the EKP-IV™, the EKP-IV PRO™ and the GeoPilot
II Plus™. As part of XM Radio's ongoing effort to provide
pilots with the widest selection and highest-quality XM WX-capable
display solutions, the company has teamed with long-time aviation
supplier AvMap.
AvMap's EKP-IV and EKP-IV PRO offer pilots a wide 7-inch
sunlight-viewable LCD that operates in either a horizontal or
vertical format. Embedded with Jeppensen cartography, night palette
and advanced flight planning capabilities, the EKP IV systems were
designed specifically with the pilot's needs in mind.
Additionally, AvMap's high-performance GeoPilot II Plus operates
as a two-in-one solution combining both aeronautical and
ground-based navigation systems into a single smart design. With a
5-inch ultra-bright LCD screen and a built-in Sirf Star III GPS
receiver, the GeoPilot II Plus is equipped to track the pilot's
position on the map simultaneously with the weather, providing
enhanced situational awareness in the cockpit.

By adding the XM WX antenna, receiver and subscription to
AvMap's moving map systems, pilots will have access to essential
weather data products, including:
- High-resolution NEXRAD radar
- Lightning display
- METARs (mid spring)
- TAFs (mid spring)
Since its inception, XM WX Satellite Weather has become the
recognized industry leader in satellite delivered weather data. In
order to receive XM WX data, a subscription to the XM WX service is
required.
