Engine Seemed To Lose Power Without Any Associated Indication, Vibration, Or Abnormal Noise

Location: Bridgeport, TX Accident Number: CEN20LA258
Date & Time: 07/01/2020, 1930 CDT Registration: N6530W
Aircraft: Piper PA28 Injuries: 3 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General Aviation - Personal

On July 1, 2020, about 1930 central daylight time, a Piper PA-28-140 airplane, N6530W, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Bridgeport, Texas. The pilot and two passengers were not injured.

The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot reported that after takeoff, about 150 ft. above ground level, the engine seemed to lose power without any associated indication, vibration, or abnormal noise. His attempts to determine the cause of the problem and restore engine power were not successful. He executed a forced landing "to a field of medium-maturity mesquite trees"that resulted in substantial damage to the left wing.

An examination of the engine is planned once the airplane is recovered from the accident site.
