Common Group To Support Competitive Student Events
Kansas State University's Aviation Department has established
the K-State Aviation Flying Club for any aviation enthusiasts to
support the university's competitive aviation teams. K-State at
Salina -- proud of its recognition as a top-five aviation program
in the country -- has students who participate competitively in the
FlightTeam, the Women's Air Race Team, and the SkillsUSA
Maintenance Team.
"These students receive one of the best aviation learning
experiences in the world, and their involvement in competitive
activities around the country reinforces their commitment to the
industry and Kansas State University's commitment to providing them
with stimulating educational activities," said Dr. Dennis Kuhlman,
dean of Kansas State at Salina. The competitive programs help
students develop flying and industry skills in addition to
leadership, teambuilding, and networking opportunities.
Recently, the Flight Team has won 33 regional competitive
top-ten finishes, including two first places and two runner-up
awards. A K-State student won the regional top pilot award in 2005,
2006, 2007, and 2008 along with the top female pilot award in 2006,
2007, and 2008. This past year, a Kansas State student earned sixth
place in the nation at Skills.
Membership in the Kansas State Aviation Flying Club is open to
anyone with an interest in Kansas State University or aviation.
Member benefits at the highest contribution level include a leather
flight jacket emblazoned with the striking K-State Aviation
Powercat logo along with logo decals suitable for airplane or
automobile. Members will also be invited to special events and
receive exclusive competitive team updates.
Anyone can join the K-State Aviation Flying Club with a gift of
$2,500, $1,000, or $500 to the KSU Foundation. Contributions will
offset student costs for aircraft rental and fuel to practice for
and fly at competitive events, in addition to travel and
accommodations.
