Effort Is Part Of A National Aviation, Education And Sports Tour To Be Launched In August
Los Angeles based 9D Media will be giving Hispanic teenagers a chance to win training toward their Private Pilot or Aviation Technician Certificate, and see some of the most advanced GA aircraft as a part of its National Aviation, Education and Sports Tour. Events will be held in seven cities around the United States over 6 month period starting this August. The company calls the program a major effort to reach into the heart of Hispanic communities around the country and give Hispanic kids a chance for a head start toward a career in aviation and aerospace.
The tour is made up of a series of one-day events over a 6 month period, and will take place at smaller general aviation airports closest to Hispanic communities in Miami, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Jose. Training toward earning a Private Pilot License and Aviation Technician Certificate will be awarded to numerous kids through out the tour. "We are dedicating a lot of our own money and resources to bring this opportunity to Hispanic kids in their community and we're hoping other companies will join us to help make this Tour a great success," comments Joe Benites, CEO of 9D Media.
On display will be some of the most technologically advanced GA airplanes available today, accompanied by the people who fly them, giving Hispanic kids a real "hands on experience" with the aircraft and technology. Mixed into the fun that day will be soccer oriented games and product sampling for the whole family. In select areas, buses will be provided from local Hispanic schools to bring kids to this Saturday event.
Fueled by sponsorship dollars, partial proceeds will be donated to Build-A-Plane, an IRS-approved 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Build-A-Plane has a formal partnership with the FAA and many other organizations. Its goal is to provide scrapped or partially build aircraft to High Schools as a restoration project that either becomes part of the academic curriculum, or be worked on as an "after school" project.
