Hilton Software Unveils WingX 2.0 Browser

Adds Safety Features, Enhanced Imagery

Less than one year after Hilton Software LLC unleashed its WingX free aviation weather browser for the Pocket PC upon the world, this week the company announced the unveiling of WingX 2.0.

WingX 2.0 adds a number of safety features to the original WingX system. Using its superb image processing and compression technology, WingX compresses NACO charts almost 10x while maintaining excellent clarity with enhanced Night Vision capability. For example, all of California's charts can be stored in main memory on practically any new Pocket PC, and all the charts in the US can easily be stored on a 512MB storage card.

SmartTaxi(TM) adds a significant safety factor while taxiing to and from the runway. WingX will not only show the aircraft on the airport diagram, but will also warn the pilot, both visually and audibly, that the aircraft is approaching a runway, or that the aircraft is on a runway and how much runway lies ahead.

"Runway Incursions have been on the NTSB's Most Wanted List since its inception," said Dr. Hilton Goldstein, company founder and CEO. "The recent tragedy of Comair Flight 5191 underlines the importance of a system that warns pilots of a potential runway incursion not only at the larger airports, but also at the smaller airports. For example, the Comair Flight 5191 crew would have heard: 'On runway two six, three thousand four hundred feet remaining' -- that is less than half the expected runway length."

"We started the company to improve aviation safety," added Goldstein. "With WingX 2.0, we have made tremendous strides in furthering our goal of safety. We have added Helicopter Weight and Balance, Weather Images, NACO Charts and Night Vision capability, and perhaps the most important, SmartTaxi(TM). Our goal has always been, and will always be, to improve aviation safety through innovation, partnerships, and engineering excellence."

WingX 2.0 is GPS enabled, has an Integrated Help System, and a fully automated Software Updating System. WingX 2.0 will run on Pocket PC 2002, Mobile 2003, and Microsoft Mobile 5.0 devices. It is available for download now, at the FMI link below.
