Former Aviation Firm Exec Fatally Injured In Floatplane Accident

Telford Aviation Services Founder Was Landing On Moosehead Lake In Maine

Telford Allen II, 64, the founder of Telford Aviation Services, was killed during a water landing attempt in front of his home in Maine Sunday. A passenger in the plane, 61-year-old Natalie Holmes-Moody, survived the accident and was in stable condition in a hospital in Greenville, ME.

Allen had a home in Rockwood, ME, just at the mouth of the Moose River. Early witness reports indicate that the amphibious plane's wheels might have been down when Allen attempted the landing. The Bangor Daily News reports that witnesses said the plane flipped over and came to rest in the water inverted.

Telford Aviation began as a small charter flight company in Waterville, ME, but later moved to Bangor International Airport in 1990. It evolved into an airplane parts sales and maintenance company, and was sold in 2009 to ACC Holdings of Milwaukee, WI. By that time, the company was being run by Allen's sons, Telford III and Travis.

The FAA was on the scene Sunday afternoon, and the accident remains under investigation.
