Bringing FLIR To The Masses
FLIR Systems announced the recent release of EVS3, a low-cost,
environmentally sealed, compact thermal imager built specifically
for the general aviation industry.
EVS3 provides fixed- and rotary-wing pilots alike with improved
situational awareness during all phases of flight, especially when
close to the ground. The component costs far less than competing
systems, according to the company, and is equipped with one of the
industry's most sensitive uncooled focal plane arrays for
outstanding imagery.
It is also the smallest, lightest package size and most
affordable vision enhancement system on the market, according to
FLIR Systems.
EVS3 uses a high-resolution VOx
320X256 infrared detector to create real-time thermal imagery that
can be displayed on any multi-functional or secondary aircraft
display with auxiliary input. EVS3 benefits from FLIR's TEC-less
design to deliver excellent imaging performance while reducing the
unnecessary complexity found within competitive offerings.
EVS3's improved dynamic range provides increased image
uniformity and clarity, a significant benefit during all flight
conditions including nighttime, haze, smoke, light fog or dust.
"We are pleased that our industry-leading technology can serve
such a significant role for the aviation community, and to offer
that technology at volume commercial prices," said Earl Lewis,
Chief Executive Officer of FLIR Systems.
FLIR says the EVS3 meets the most demanding environmental
requirements while providing reduced power consumption and near
"instant-on" capability. EVS3 is based on the same technology that
has already been embraced by the marine industry, and automakers
such as BMW.
