U.S. Senate Confirms Anthony Foxx As Secretary Of Transportation

Move Draws Praise From Legislators, Advice For The New Secretary From The Aviation Industry

In a unanimous vote Thursday, Mayor Anthony Foxx (pictured) was confirmed as Secretary of Transportation. Following the vote, Senate Commerce Committee chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller (D-WV) issued a statement expressing his strong support for the new secretary.

“I congratulate Mayor Foxx on his Senate confirmation. The unanimous votes by the Senate and Commerce Committee convey our confidence in Mayor Foxx as the right person to lead the Transportation Department," Rockefeller said. "I look forward to working closely with him on our greatest infrastructure challenges – from rebuilding ports and bridges to making our roads safer. I hope Mayor Foxx will be the broker we need to break the partisan gridlock so we can make critical investments that will preserve and strengthen our nation’s infrastructure.”

GAMA issued a similar statement of support congratulating Foxx on his confirmation, while reminding the new secretary of the role GA plays in the nation's economy. "As the former Mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Foxx saw firsthand the importance of general aviation to the city's economy. Now, as he leads the U.S. transportation system, we hope Mr. Foxx will adopt policies that encourage the success and growth of general aviation nationwide, allowing the industry to add to its $150 billion annual economic impact and 1.2 million jobs. We look forward to working with him in his new role.”
