Kit Johnson Named Customs Manager For Airbus Mobile Assembly Line

Second Position Filled For New Airbus Manufacturing Facility

Christopher “Kit” Johnson has joined Airbus Americas as its new Customs Manager for the company’s A320 Family assembly line in Mobile, Alabama. Johnson joined the company on May 20, filling the second position for the company’s new manufacturing facility.

In his role, he will be responsible for securing and improving customs activities in U.S. with a focus on Airbus Americas’ aircraft final assembly line in Mobile, implementing customs processes in cooperation with U.S. Customs Authorities, providing operational oversight of Customs Brokers and third party logistics contractors, ensuring adequate internal control processes for customs compliance, and continuously evaluating business activities for duty minimization opportunities.

Johnson, a licensed customs broker and certified customs specialist, comes to Airbus Americas from John S. James Co. at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. in Vance, Alabama where he was a Foreign Trade Zone & Customs Group Manager. Prior to that, Johnson was with FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee.

Johnson graduated from the University of Memphis in 2003. He and his family currently reside in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but will soon relocate to Mobile.
On July 2, 2012, Airbus announced it is building an assembly line for its A320 Family of aircraft in Mobile. The groundbreaking for the assembly line was on April 8, 2013, and major construction begins this summer. Hiring for manufacturing jobs at the assembly line will begin during the fourth quarter of 2013 and continue into 2014.
