Six Reported Lost In Quito Plane Downing

Small Plane Impacted Buildings In Heavy Fog

An Ecuadorian military aircraft impacted two buildings in the capital city of Quito Thursday afternoon, claiming the three people onboard the plane and at least three people on the ground.

According to CNN, the aircraft -- identified in news reports as a Beechcraft, believed to be a King Air -- hit two buildings in the wealthy Guapulo neighborhood in the northern part of the city, before coming to rest in the backyard of a residential property.

The occupants of the aircraft were military personnel on a training exercise. Dense fog was reported at the time of the accident.

"I heard a loud, loud noise," said one witness, who was on his patio when the plane passed overhead. "I looked up and saw a small plane, super low, and then I heard a boom and went downstairs to see what happened."

The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm EDT.

Ecuador's Army operates a small fleet of King Air 100 and 200 turboprop aircraft.
