Kent State Takes Delivery of G1000-Equipped Skyhawks

Av School Gets Glass

ANN has learned Ohio's Kent State University has taken delivery of two new Cessna Skyhawks featuring the Garmin G1000, fully integrated all-glass flightdeck.  This is the second phase of modernizing the university’s training aircraft fleet.

"These high tech aircraft will give the Kent State students exposure to technology employers are looking for," said Eastern Cincinnati Aviation Chairman Hal Shevers.

The keys to the new Skyhawks were presented to Kent State University President Dr. Carol A. Cartwright by Hal Shevers in a ceremony at Kent State Airport (1G3) on January 18. Also participating in the ceremony were several of Kent State University’s students, faculty and administrators including Dr. Isaac Richmond Nettey, Senior Academic Program Director of Aeronautics.

"Kent State University expects the fleet upgrade with the integrated avionics offered by the Garmin G1000 navigation system to support continued excellence in providing flight education for the next generation of aviation professionals," said Dr. Nettey.

The delivery of the two aircraft allows the University the ability to offer their students the most sophisticated glass cockpit training aircraft available. With the new aircraft, students will be training with some of the same navigation systems found in the newest corporate jets and airliners -- enhancing student transition in Kent State’s Bridge Program with Continental Express.
