Northrop Grumman Successfully Demonstrates New ATC Voice Switch

FAA Gets A Look At VoIP Technology For NextGen Voice Switch Competition

Northrop Grumman Corporation said Monday it has successfully demonstrated of the company's Next Generation Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Voice Switch to officials of the FAA in preparation for the upcoming National Airspace System (NAS) Voice Switch (NVS) program competition.

The voice switches support communications between air traffic controllers and pilots, in addition to communications between multiple air traffic controllers. Compared with the FAA's legacy communications switches, the new voice switch product being offered by the company's Denro Systems business unit is designed to provide increased performance, reliability and flexibility.

The demonstration was the second phase of Northrop Grumman's response to a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the FAA for the NVS program.

"The new voice switch product met and, in many cases, exceeded the FAA's National Airspace System requirements," said John Jadik, vice president, Communications, Intelligence and Networking Solutions for Northrop Grumman's Land Forces Division. "The demonstration marked the successful culmination of Northrop Grumman's multi-year investments and development efforts to design a new generation of communications systems targeted specifically for the FAA's NVS program."
