AOPA Awards Another $1,000 To Project Pilot Mentor

Quarterly Drawing Nets Cash For Illinois Pilot

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) recently awarded its third quarterly Project Pilot mentor $1,000 prize to Michael Lardino of Grayslake, IL. He won by being a mentor to student Tim Tierney of Lake Zurich, IL.

"I’m happy to contribute," said Lardino of being a mentor. "It’s my pleasure."

Lardino, a former American Eagle pilot, is getting back into general aviation by flying Cessna 172s when he’s not working as a tennis pro. He took Tierney, who works with him, on a flight and the prospective pilot enjoyed it so much that he has decided to begin flight training.

To become a mentor, like Lardino, it takes a desire to share your passion for aviation, a little personal time, and a student pilot who seeks advice, motivation, and encouragement throughout their flight training.

Any pilot who signs up as a Project Pilot mentor is eligible to win $1,000 in quarterly drawings held by AOPA; as ANN reported, the group awarded another $1,000 prize in August.

AOPA says there's still one more chance for a Project Pilot mentor to win the next $1,000 quarterly drawing this year.
