Airborne-Flight Training 12.09.20: ERAU Fleet, Warbirds v FAA, GA Awards

As demand for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s collegiate professional Aviation programs continues to grow, so does their fleet. Since March 2020, 12 new Cessna 172 Nav III “SkyHawk” aircraft and three Diamond DA42 NG VI “Twin Star” aircraft, from Diamond Aircraft, have been added to the fleet at Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Campus. 

At the Daytona Beach Campus, one new Diamond and one new Cessna were added during the same timeframe. With these additions, the Prescott Campus’ Department of Flight now houses a total of 45 aircraft. The Daytona Beach Flight Department’s fleet includes 63 Cessnas and 11 Diamonds. The final assembly team at Dassault Aviation in Bordeaux-Merignac (France) opened the doors of Charles Lindbergh Hall Tuesday to show the world the company’s newest advanced aircraft, the Falcon 6X. “Today’s rollout is a significant achievement. I am very pleased to present the addition of an all-new aircraft design within the Falcon family, the ultra widebody Falcon 6X,” said Dassault Aviation Chairman Eric Trappier. “The challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic required exceptional perseverance and cooperation on the part of Dassault and its partner companies.”

Aviation Groups Call for Halt of FCC Spectrum Auction Affecting Radar Altimeters

The Group’s Request To Suspend The Auction Is Rooted In Findings From A RTCA Study

A group of 15 aviation associations sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) expressing concern over frequency spectrum relocation affecting radar altimeters, a critical flight safety tool. The group requested that the FCC suspend Auction 107, scheduled to begin December 8, which offers new flexible-use overlay licenses for spectrum in the 3.7–3.98 GHz band, in order to resolve likely interference issues with radar altimeters prior to the auction.

AD: Airbus Helicopters

AD 2020-24-07 Retains The Requirements Of AD 2018-26-02 And Adds Calendar Time Compliance Times

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2018-26-02 for Airbus Helicopters (previously Eurocopter France) Model AS350B3, EC130B4, and EC130T2 helicopters. AD 2018-26-02 required inspecting the pilot's and co-pilot's throttle twist for proper operation. This new AD retains the requirements of AD 2018-26-02 and adds calendar time compliance times for the required actions. This AD was prompted by a public comment that prompted additional review. The actions of this AD are intended to address an unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective January 12, 2021.
