The team operating NASA's Curiosity Mars rover on Mars has selected a second target rock for drilling and sampling. Australian MoD, Eurocopter Reach Agreement On Helicopter Fix

Hubble Space Telescope Finds Dead Stars 'Polluted' With Planet Debris

Discovery Made About 150 Light-Years From Earth

The Hubble Space Telescope has found the building blocks for Earth-sized planets in an unlikely place -- the atmospheres of a pair of burned-out stars called white dwarfs. These dead stars are located 150 light-years from Earth in a relatively young star cluster, Hyades, in the constellation Taurus. The star cluster is only 625 million years old. The white dwarfs are being polluted by asteroid-like debris falling onto them.

Maverick LSA/Flying Car Suffers Setback

Aircraft Downed and Totaled... With Only Minor Injuries

One of the developmental prototypes of the Maverick LSA/Flying Car went down this weekend after its parachute canopy suffered some mode of malfunction (as yet unexplained) and went down with minor injuries to pilot Ray Siebring and his passenger. The aircraft, which mates a small jeep-like ground vehicle with a pusher prop and a ram-air parachute canopy, for lift, experienced an uncommanded turn less than 10 minutes into the Friday flight requiring full opposite corrective control to maintain directional authority... but also produced an excessive sink rate which could not be arrested before the aircraft impacted the ground.

NTSB Releases Factual Report From Kingfisher, OK EMS Helo Accident

Pilot Had Been Taking Medications For a Sleep Disorder Not Reported To The FAA

The NTSB has released a factual report from an accident near Kingfisher, OK, involving an EagleMed Eurocopter AS350 B2 helicopter that was on its way to pick up a patient. The accident resulted in the fatal injury of the pilot, Al Harrison, and nurse Ryan duke. A paramedic who was also on board the aircraft survived, and initiated a 911 call after the accident.

Pilot Disputing FAA Suspension

Was Involved In A Runway Excursion In October

The FAA said pilot Keith George violated four FARs during a flight that ended with the Beach B90 he was flying overshooting a runway and landing on an Interstate highway in Surtevant, Wisconsin in October of last year. The FAA notified George that it plans to suspend his Commercial Pilot privileges as a result of the accident, but he is challenging that decision.

Video Shows Italian Airline Workers Stealing From Luggage

Hidden Camera Sting Caught Dozens Involved In Thefts

Police in Italy have released a video showing baggage handlers rifling through passenger's luggage in the cargo holds of airplanes and stealing cash and other valuables. In all, 29 baggage handlers were arrested in the sting, according to the Associated Press, with another 57 taken in for questioning, according to UPI and the London newspapers The Telegraph and the Daily Mail.
