Rockwell Collins Holds Earnings, But Notes Aero-Industry Losses In 2Q/09

Still Achieves Earnings Per Share Of $1.03 For Second Quarter Fiscal Year 2009

Aerospace giant, Rockwell Collins, is reporting earnings (per share) of $1.03 for the second quarter of fiscal year 2009 -- pretty much level with the same period last year. Earnings, per share, remained level despite a second quarter fiscal year 2009 sales decline of $48 million, or 4%, to $1.138 billion compared to sales of $1.186 billion a year ago.

Yet Another Story This Industry Does NOT Need

ANN regrets to report that facts are emerging in which yet another pilot has been pulled from a duty flight, for the aroma of alcohol that accompanied him. An Air Canada pilot, said to be boarding to serve as a "backup" pilot for a B777 flight from London, England, to Calgary, Alberta was confronted by security after a Heathrow guard claimed to have smelled alcohol emanating from the pilot.

Dr. Michael Hickey, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus, was recently elected to a one-year term as associate director of the Florida Space Grant Consortium (FSGC).

Event Hosted By Flybe Takes Place In Exeter, Devon, England

Embraer is talking up their recent participation in the second E-Jets Operators Maintenance Forum (OMF), April 28 and 29, in Exeter, Devon, England. Hosted by Flybe Airlines and organized by E-Jets family operators, in conjunction with Embraer, this event "provided a good opportunity for sharing experiences and best practices regarding maintenance, in pursuit of a means to reduce costs."

Sikorsky has delivered six S-300CBi helicopters to Bristow Academy, a Florida-based flight training school. All six aircraft will join Bristow's fleet of 48 S-300CBi helicopters, currently used for training instruction at Bristow's three U.S. locations in California, Florida, and Louisiana.

CAE has received IA approval from the FAA for six of its e-Learning maintenance training courses. The e-Learning courses, which are offered to maintenance technicians remotely over the web, include the B737NG engine ground operations, advanced digital principles, human factors, maintenance diagnostic systems (MDS) and reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM).

"The Transport Canada rule is eight hours, but we have that additional buffer for safety reasons. The bottom line is that pilots are not supposed to have a drink for 12 hours before they operate an aircraft."

Source: Air Canada spokesperson, Peter Fitzpatrick, explaining the regs around alcohol consumption for the airline, as well as for Transport Canada... after one of the airline's pilots was removed from a B777 flight on suspicion of alcohol abuse.
