Continental Aerospace Is Improving Its Engines For The GA Market
It may not seem that the reciprocating aircraft engine has changed much in the past several decades, but that is certainly not the case. Continental Motors has a staff of engineers that has been constantly improving the comapny's engines to make them more efficient, lighter and reliable.
Chris Kuehn, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Support for Continental Aerospace Technologies told Aero-News Editor in Chief Jim Campbell that the company is very in tune with its customers. In response to their input, the company created Continental Prime for OEM parts. The parts have been improved using proprietary processes and certified through a PMA, which Kuehn says are "very attractive" to owners of Lycoming engines.
Kuehn said that interest has been increasing for Continental's Jet-A engines, not only around the world but in North America as well.
The company began work last year on a new, 275,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Mobile, AL that will primarily be dedicated to advanced engine and parts manufacturing for all Continental Aerospace product lines. It will be populated with brand new manufacturing equipment and include a special area designated for evaluation of new manufacturing techniques and processes, including additive manufacturing and automation.
