ANN Names New Managing Editor

Arturo Weiss Joins ANN

When we first announced that we would be searching for a new Managing Editor some weeks ago, we were unprepared for the quantity and quality of the resumes we received, in response. We were impressed and humbled at the kind of people who spoke of an interest in joining the Aviation World's Most Dynamic DAILY News Service.

While the quality of many of the people who applied was pretty impressive, so were the backgrounds and work experience claimed by many. ANN covers the entire aviation and aerospace world, so someone with an extensive background in a number of aero-disciplines was just what the flight surgeon ordered.

Finally; temperament and personality is a big deal here at ANN... we work REALLY hard here... so working alongside staffers with good people skills and a team spirit became the final and possibly most important aspect of the decision-making process. We had an advantage in this in that ANN Marketing Wizard Larry Pius knew our final choice very well and was able to provide excellent insight into his skills and abilities... putting a lock on our final decision in naming Arturo Weiss as ANN's new Managing Editor.

Arturo will start training here at ANN shortly and will be taking over a number of critical responsibilities in mid-January. Arturo is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach) and is now a full-time freelance aviation writer and consultant, specializing in Spanish language media work. Prior to joining Aero News Networks, he was an editor and writer for AVweb.

Before moving into the fast-paced and low-paid world of aviation journalism, Arturo worked for Airbus Industrie as a Training Account Representative at the company's Miami Training Center. There, he oversaw the training programs for the manufacturer's Latin-American clients, including writing training syllabi, working on standardization issues, and assisting in safety investigations.

After leaving Airbus, Arturo worked as the Safety Programs Manager for EAA in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In this position, he oversaw the design and implementation of the organization's safety programs and overall promotion of safety-related issues to the membership, government agencies and general public. Arturo also wrote safety articles for the organization's publications and other literature in connection with EAA's Flight Advisor and Technical Counselor programs.

After a stint developing Colorado-based Adam Aircraft's initial marketing programs, Arturo decided to jump headfirst into writing and consulting and has written for various aviation publications including: Aircraft Interiors, Autopilot, Air Market, Flight Simulator World and Florida Aviation Business Journal. His consulting work has included projects with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, NetsideTV and several Spanish language media outlets including Telemundo and Univision.

When not writing, talking about or otherwise dabbling in aviation issues, Arturo enjoys flying (of course), practicing the martial art of Aikido and spending quality time with his wife and son. Arturo and his family live in Ormond Beach, Fla.

We're tremendously pleased to attract someone with his experience and talent. We look forward to working with him as ANN expands a number of services and offerings for early 2004. Keep an eye out, folks... great things are coming.
