American Legend Aircraft Expands To Restoration Market

Offers Owners Of Tube-And-Fabric Planes A New Option

American Legend Aircraft Company alerted ANN Monday to the formation of American Legend Aircraft Services, an offshoot of the light-sport-aircraft manufacturer that will provide aircraft restoration services on vintage tube-and-fabric aircraft -- particularly on vintage Piper Cubs, and similar aircraft.

American Legend Aircraft Services offers owners of tube-and-fabric aircraft a new choice when shopping for repair, overhaul, or upgrade options for their vintage aircraft. The company says it can provide everything from annual inspections to showroom-quality complete restorations.

Vintage airplanes may include antique, classic and contemporary designs. Many of these aircraft are tube-and-fabric designs, meaning they are constructed of welded tubular frames covered with fabric and polymer coatings. Many such designs have been produced -- namely the Piper J-3, PA-11 and Super Cubs; Aeronca Champ, Chief and later Citabria; Luscombe Monocoupe through 8 series; Taylorcraft, Waco and Stearman among others.

American Legend Aircraft Company manufactures the Legend Cub -- an airplane similar in design to the original J-3 and PA-11 Cub, yet sporting several improvements in terms of construction and pilot/passenger comforts.

Representatives with ALAC tell ANN the materials and processes used in the manufacture of the Legend Cub share much in common with restored aircraft. For example, the process of aircraft covering is performed by highly skilled workers on both the manufacture of new and restored aircraft. Both companies are also staffed with FAA certificated Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanics and licensed Inspection Authority (I.A.) personnel.

In addition, American Legend's facilities are equipped for the manufacture and repair of airframe structures. The company also offers upgrade restoration options to vintage aircraft owners including avionics, engines, interiors, and a wide range of STCs. Repair and overhaul services can include mechanical systems, top quality upholstery, airframe structural work, and new cover and paint.

Located in Sulphur Springs, TX, American Legend Aircraft Company manufacturers the Legend Cub light-sport certified recreational aircraft. American Legend Aircraft Services provides restoration services to owners of vintage tube-and-fabric aircraft.
