Sign Of The Times: University Adds 'Aviation Security' Major

TSA Already Looking At Candidates

Increased aviation security -- it's a reality that is unlikely to disappear any time soon, given the foiling of an August plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights.

Such measures have created a need for a qualified person to specifically handle security at many aviation companies -- and one Chicago-area college is meeting that need.

"This has created a lot of new jobs," Lewis University Department of Aviation Chair Michael Striet said, speaking of the university's new aviation security major, which "is a combination of a minor in aviation administration and a minor in personal security."

Streit told the school's student newspaper, the Flyer, that out of 350 aviation students enrolled for the school's fall semester, six students have declared the new program as a major.

The paper adds the program has not gone unnoticed... with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) already contacting some students with possible job opportunities.

Lewis University is a Catholic University located 30 miles south of Chicago.
