DAC International And Cobham STEC Reach Agreement For HeliSAS

Two-Axis Flight Control System On Display At Heli Expo

DAC International of Greenwich AeroGroup, Inc. announced Friday they have entered into a distribution agreement for sales into South America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe with Cobham's HeliSAS Autopilot and Stability Augmentation System for light and medium helicopters.

Cobham received HeliSAS TSO certification from the FAA in 2009, and has been progressing toward STC standing on the Bell 206 and Bell 407 helicopters since that time.  STC certification for these models is expected in the first half of 2011, and an AS 350 STC is anticipated shortly thereafter.

HeliSAS is a two-axis attitude hold, attitude command, flight control system. The system has two basic functions, a Stability Augmentation System (SAS) to aid with aircraft stability and an autopilot outer loop control modes for altitude hold, heading select and navigation sensor coupling. According to Cobham representatives, the SAS and Autopilot System provides a significant reduction in pilot work load and dramatically improves safety of flight operations. Additionally, the HeliSAS is very light weight, affordable and requires approximately 40 man-hours to install.

DAC International will have the system on display at their booth at Heli Expo, April 6-8, 2011 in Orlando, FL.
