Aero-TV At Oshkosh 2009: Let It Rain -- Unexpected Guest At AirVenture

Neither Spirits Or Enthusiasm Are Dampened

Thursday morning dawned grey and rainy, but if you think that cast a pall over AirVenture, well, you've never been here.

People come to Oshkosh to be among the airplanes, to be around kindred souls. A little bad weather wasn't about to spoil anybody's day.

Thursday's steady morning rain gave way to afternoon thundershowers, and puddles formed in the low swales lining the roads and golf cart paths where people were walking in an attempt to stay out of the mud. Everyone seemed a little more courteous, there were still plenty of smiles, and everyone just threw on a yellow poncho or put up their umbrella and simply went on about enjoying the airshow.

At the end of the day, there might have been a little mud on your shoes, and the seat of your pants might have been just a bit damp from driving a rain-drenched golf cart or scooter around the airport. But from the volunteers to the visitors, everyone remembered that this is Wisconsin, and if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and it'll change. Until then the show must go on, and go on it did. AirVenture 2009 survived it's one all-day rain, and nobody seemed to be the least bit the worse for wear.
