Taiwanese Fighter Crew Ejects

Fishermen, um, Fish Them Out of Taiwan Strait

The Taiwan-made Indigenous Defense Fighter (a sort of F-5 clone, with very ambitious performance claims -- see link) was giving the pilot what he said later were "handling problems," so the two aboard, identified as Wang Pei-chiang and Tsai Kun-nan, said they "...decided to jump out."

The Taiwan Air Force pair punched out over the Taiwan Strait, leaving a machine that's designed to keep Red China from assimilating free China... and they were picked out of the water by -- who else -- Chinese fishermen.

The TAF has publicly thanked the fishermen for their gracious acts of saving the pilots, and for turning them over to the Taiwan Coast Guard. What actually happened -- a Taiwan Coast Guard ship vs two Red Chinese fishing boats, in Taiwanese waters -- we'll probably never know.

The pilots, though, are safe.
