Black Hawk Down -- Iraq

UH-60 Apparently Shot Down In Tikrit

An American Black Hawk helicopter was apparently shot down in Saddam Hussein's hometown Friday. All six people on board were killed. Troops in Tikrit say the helicopter went down in flames after guerrillas probably shot it down with a rocket propelled grenade.

If that's confirmed, it would be the third time in two weeks that an American chopper had been shot down. In all, 22 soldiers have been killed.

The apparent shoot-down comes as the military confirmed two soldiers were killed in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. One died in a bombing yesterday. The other was killed in an ambush today. Six other U.S. troops were wounded in that attack. A spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division says guerrillas used rocket-propelled grenades in the ambush. At least 131 American soldiers have been killed in action since the president declared major combat over back on May 1st.
