You're Never Too Old To Jump

The Band Played On

It was nothing short of a celebration. Friends stood in the sunshine near Fort Myers (FL). A harmonica band stood by to provide him with a musical welcome back to Earth. As Guy Glinski floated toward them in a tandem parachute, the Fort Myers Harmonica Band struck up the USAF theme song, "Off We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder." Glinski, you see, had just become a skydiver.

At the tender young age of 90.

“You should have brought a pancake flipper with you,” Glinski told his 61-year old daughter as she hugged him prior to his jump. But don't let that fool you. Glinski was described as being "as excited as a kid" as he chuted up for his first jump.

“I’ve always wanted to do this,” said the 33-year Pine Island (FL) resident. “I just wanted to make sure I made 90 years old first.”

Glinski and his tandem jump instructor, Carl Smith, jumped from 12,000 feet. It could well be that Glinski is the oldest person ever to make a tandem jump. Guiness lists the oldest skydiver as 91.

Hey, Guy, there's always next year.
