Upgrading The Aurora

Primagraphics Wins US$300k General Dynamics Contract

Primagraphics, the command & control, video and graphics specialist, has been awarded a US$300,000 contract by General Dynamics Canada to supply its Cobra quad video windows solution for use on board the CP-140 Aurora, Canada's long-range maritime patrol aircraft. The CP-140 Aurora aircraft patrol the world's longest coastline and can fly over 9,000km (5,592 mi) without refueling.

Under a contract from Canada's Department of National Defense, GD Canada is responsible for the supply and integration of a new data management system on board the CP-140 Aurora - part of the ongoing Aurora Incremental Modernization Project (AIMP). Engineers with GD Canada, based in Ottawa, Canada, needed a video windowing solution which could handle the multiple video signals from optical and infrared sensors received at each display console on the aircraft. The system required also needed to switch and scale the signals for display in windows with a high-resolution graphics overlay.

David Johnson, product manager at Primagraphics, said: "We are delighted to be working with General Dynamics Canada on such a prestigious program. Cobra is our latest high-performance video windowing product and provides an excellent platform for sensor-rich surveillance and reconnaissance applications due to its quad window capability and the separate graphics channel."

Cobra is designed for sophisticated display applications where there is a requirement for multiple video and graphics signals to be displayed simultaneously, such as in command and control systems, training and simulation, and a wide range of surveillance, reconnaissance and homeland security applications.
