Biden's Weekend Visits Home Grounded By Sequestration

Air Force II Won't Be Ferrying The Veep Home For Weekends

Vice President Joe Biden says that he'll once again be taking the train home to Delaware from Washington for the weekends now that the sequester has grounded Air Force II from weekend trips. But the Veep does not seem to be too upset about it.

Biden regularly rode the train back and forth to Delaware as a Senator, but after becoming Vice President, he was forced to stop the practice due to security concerns. Fox News reports that Biden told the Secret Service this week that "I've got to take the train now ... it's cheaper than flying."

A source confirmed that Biden will again be taking the train starting this weekend. "It's back to 'regular Joe'," the source said, adding that Biden usually spends the trip, which lasts almost 90 minutes, reading the paper, reviewing documents, talking to people, shaking hands, and posing for pictures. "He talks to everyone and anyone and doesn't sit still," the Fox source said.

Flying Air Force II costs taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars for the short trip from D.C. to Delaware. Biden occasionally flies to his home state during the week on military transport aircraft.
