NASA’s SpaceX Crew-5 Mission Gets Green Light

Space Bound and Down

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-5 mission has been greenlit. Liftoff is slated for noon EDT on Wednesday, 5 October from Kennedy’s Launch Complex 39A. Endurance will carry two NASA astronauts—Mission Commander Nicole Aunapu Mann and Pilot Josh Cassada—along with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Koichi Wakata and Roscosmos cosmonaut Anna Kikina, who will serve as mission specialists, to the International Space Station.

FAA Extends Rest Periods for Flight Attendants

Bureaucracy and the Conflation of One Hour with Meaningful Change

The FAA has issued a final rule requiring that flight attendants receive longer periods of rest between crew-assignments. The new rule increases the inter-duty-day rest period from nine to ten consecutive hours. The measure also fulfills the requirements of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, by which the agency was directed to increase the minimum rest period for flight attendants with scheduled duty days of 14 hours or less, and eliminate a provision that permitted rest to be reduced under certain circumstances.

NTSB Prelim: Airgyro AG915

The Gyrocopter Had Accumulated 37.8 Flight Hours

On September 27, 2022, about 1030 central daylight time, an Airgyro AG915 Spartan gyrocopter, N499AG, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Yankton, South Dakota. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. The gyrocopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The gyrocopter was based out of a hangar at the Chan Gurney Municipal Airport (YKN), Yankton, South Dakota.
