New York Operators Versus East Hampton NIMBYs Given Respite from Closure, Conversion to Permission-Only Airport
A Suffolk County, New York court granted a motion for an injunction that maintains access to the East Hampton Town Airport (JPX) in the latest change of the ongoing battle to maintain the location. The litigation was supported by local friends and industry bodies, opposed by the town of East Hampton itself as it seeks to extend a series of operational restrictions at the field. If the town has its way, flights into JPX will be much tougher for visitors and operators based out of the region, with the airport becoming a private field.
Founded as a joint-venture between a semiconductor entrepreneur and a pilot, Dynon is a respected designer and manufacturer of light aircraft avionics. In October 2022, the company announced its SkyView autopilot system had received FAA approval for installation in Cessna 182E thru 182T, R182, T182, TR182, and T182T Skylane models equipped with Dynon’s SkyView HDX avionics system—a complete and highly-capable integrated avionics system for light, light-sport, and experimental aircraft.
Boon or Bane to the Part 135 GV Operator—Comments Sought
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released the first aircraft standardized training curricula for use in training GV pilots in the employ of Part 135 operators. The FAA is seeking comments on the GV curricula, and will remain receptive to such until 9 Novermber 2022. As the first training curricula of its type, the FAA's GV-series program establishes the framework for development of all future programs. The FAA is beginning work to craft curricula for the next aircraft targeted for the program, and ultimately intends to make available standardized training curricula for many aircraft commonly used in Part 135 operations.

Original 1/2 Scale Sparrow Model Aircraft Tendered as Representation of Uncrewed Aviation Design Circa 1973
The Academy of Model Aeronautics has received a new piece of history to add to the collection, bringing in the Sparrow, a 1/2 scale demonstrator of a would-be drone aircraft from the early seventies. The new piece was delivered by Jim Dalton and Doug Erhardt, Dalton being a long time steward of the model. The Sparrow was designed by Raymond Fredette of the Flight Dynamics Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base under Project Teleplane, a preliminary effort to assess and design remotely piloted vehicles for military purposes.

Air Canada and CAE announced a joint effort to double the number of 2023 Captain Judy Cameron Scholarships, support granted to young Canadian women aiming for a career as commercial pilots or maintenance engineers. On September 05, 2022, about 0948 Pacific daylight time, a Rutan Varieze, N10EZ, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Columbia, California. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot had been performing maintenance on the accident airplane and upgrading various systems. The weeks prior to the accident, he installed an Electroair electronic ignition system. The accident flight was the first flight out of maintenance.
AD 2022-22-05 Requires Inspecting The Sprockets To Determine If They Have A Non-Metallic Sleeve In The Sprocket Bore
The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for NZSkydive Limited (type certificate previously held by Pacific Aerospace Ltd.) Model FBA-2C1, FBA-2C2, FBA-2C3, and FBA-2C4 airplanes. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The Helicopter Safety Advisory Conference (HSAC) was formed in January, 1978 after an accident in which 19 people lost their lives when a helicopter came in contact with a platform crane. Realizing there was a lack of communication between oil companies, service organizations, helicopter operations, and the helicopter industry, representatives of these companies agreed to work toward improved safety offshore. The HSAC continues to identify critical issues that affect safety in the Gulf of Mexico.
