First Female New Mexico Police Pilot Gets $750K After Gender Discrimination Complaint

As much as we would all like to believe that the aviation business has grown up to avoid some of the discriminatory nonsense that occured as women became a larger part of the community, it's not always so... The New Mexico State Police Department has settled a sex discrimination lawsuit brought by its first female pilot, LeAnne Gomez. The department denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve Gomez's claims that she was consistently denied opportunities for training and career advancement while enduring a hostile work environment because of her gender.

Stefan Zeberli Becomes World Hot Air Balloon Champion For 2022

Just a few days ago, Stefan Zeberli of Switzerland was crowned World Hot Air Balloon Champion 2022, under a beautiful blue sky in Musrka Sobata, Slovenia. The pilot was already a name to watch out for, having moved from 3rd place in Saga, 2016 up to silver medal position in 2018, but was behind Yudai Fujita at the start of the 2022 competition. Zeberli was handed the trophy by previous champion, British pilot Dominic Bareford.

AD 2022-17-04 Prompted By Reports Of Broken P-Clamps On The Pressure Relief Line

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited Model DHC-8-400 series airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of broken P-clamps on the pressure relief line and the motive flow line in the fuel tanks, and a subsequent determination that certain service information lacked instructions for maintaining appropriate clearance between certain fuel tubes and their support brackets, and may also have led to incorrect installation of certain TeflonTM sleeves. This AD was also prompted by a determination that new or more restrictive airworthiness limitations are necessary...

NTSB Prelim: Cessna 172S (A1); Sonex Aircraft Xenos (A2)

Fragmented Sections Of The Outboard Left Wings Of Both Airplanes Were Found In A Field

On September 17, 2022, about 0853 mountain daylight time, a Cessna 172S, N2117Y, and a Sonex Aircraft Xenos, N255BF, were destroyed when they were involved in a mid-air collision near Longmont, Colorado. The flight instructor and student pilot aboard the Cessna and the pilot aboard the Sonex sustained fatal injuries. The Cessna was operated as Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The Sonex was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.
