Long Island Airport Moving to Private Operation

East Hampton Prohibits Public, Commercial Use at Local Airport

East Hampton, in Long Island, New York, is making an unusual change to its small regional airport. The anti-private aviation East Hampton Town Board approved a resolution to deactivate East Hampton Airport (HTO) through a temporary closure on March 1, and reopen it three days later as a “new airport,” a private-use facility subject to prior permission. The board says the change will greatly reduce the noise and traffic in the area, something long requested by locals. The removal of commercial services and outsiders is not popular outside of the limited circle of residents and renters, however. The airport is one of the few available to residents looking for access to t

SpaceX Rocket Debris Drifting Towards Moon

Stranded Falcon 9 Booster in Decaying Lunar Orbit for March 4 Impact

A piece of an old Falcon 9 rocket is on a crash course with Luna, according to astronomers tracking debris in the Earth sphere. A 7-year old booster set adrift in space years ago is headed for impact, first reported by a Bill Gray in a release from January 21st. His computations show the booster making an orbit around the moon again, eventually falling into the dark side of the moon on March 4. Gray said his confidence in accuracy contains some variables in running the numbers: he is able to account for the gravitational effects of the Earth, Moon, Sun, and other planets, as well as the effect of the gentle push of sunlight on the mass.

Boeing Gets New 5G Mitigation Requirements

New Airworthiness Directive Addresses B747, 777 5G Interference

The FAA has released another 5G related Airworthiness Directive, this time prohibiting Boeing 747-8, 747-8F and 777 airplanes from landing at airports where 5G interference could possibly occur. The AD does not apply to those landings at airports the FAA has affirmed are safe and reliable in their local C-band environment, nor those airports without 5G infrastructure in their vicinity. The FAA says it issued the AD for the heavy Boeings because of its interconnected systems reliant upon its altimeter, which affects the autothrottle, ground proximity warning, thrust reversers, and TCAS. The aircraft affected are estimated to number 336 in the domestic American fleet, with over 1,700 wo
