Shortly after the resignation of DoT Secretary Elaine Chao, FAA chief of staff Angela Stubblefield disclosed that, “This evening the Secretary and the Administrator received resignation letters from all our non-career staff members here at FAA. These resignations will be effective Monday evening. Our colleagues’ decisions, given the gravity of the scary capitols events, are understandable. Like all of us, they are outraged by the brazen and violent attack on one of the sacred institutions of American democracy.” Chao’s resignation takes effect later today, January 11th, though she has promised to aid her successor, former Mayor Pete Buttigieg

WestJet Details Its 737 Max Return-To-Service Plan

First Guest Flight Set For January 21st

WestJet is planning to return its fleet of 737 MAX aircraft to passenger service in what they call a 'phased and transparent' approach. The airline's plans follow an announcement from Transport Canada (TC) on December 17, 2020 where TC safety experts validated the aircraft design changes and outlined requirements for Canadian carriers. NTSB Prelim: Cessna 172

The Engine Experienced An RPM Reduction, Followed By A Total Loss Of Engine Power

On December 27, 2020, about 1500 eastern standard time, a Cessna 172C, N8311X, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Pleasant Valley, New York. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. According to the student pilot, after a normal preflight inspection she departed with 27 gallons of fuel and planned to remain in the traffic pattern to practice takeoffs and landings. She deployed partial flaps and carburetor heat on the downwind leg of the traffic pattern. Shortly thereafter, the engine experienced an rpm reduction, which was followed by a total loss
