The Flight Test Program Will Be Expanded To Include The Gripen Flight Test Center

The first Brazilian Gripen E, designated by Brazilian Air Force (FAB) as F-39 Gripen, concluded its first flight in Brazil. The aircraft flew from the airport in Navegantes to Embraer's facility in Gavião Peixoto. The official presentation of the aircraft is scheduled to take place during the Aviator's Day and the Brazilian Air Force Day ceremony in Brasilia, celebrated on the 23rd of October. We are still evaluating the information coming in on a crash in the central part of California state, near Stockton,  involving a WWII generation Mitchell Bomber that went down short of an airport and into an 'open' field, where an irrigation ditch, and other impediments, apparently caused serious damage to the airframe. Three people were on the aircraft. Two were transported to a local hospital, and one was able to walk away. Ampaire has flown its second technology demonstrator.

FAA Increases Drone Access to Controlled Airspace

Adds 133 Air Traffic Facilities To The LAANC System

The FAA has made it easier for drone pilots to quickly and safely access controlled airspace by adding 133 air traffic facilities to the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) system. LAANC is an automated application and approval system for drone pilots requesting to fly below 400 feet in controlled airspace. It directly supports UAS integration into the airspace.

DoT Announces $335M in Airport Infrastructure Grants

$300M From The AIP and $35M in Coronavirus Aid

SecTrans Elaine Chao has announced that the Trump Administration will award $335 million in airport safety and infrastructure grants through the FAA to 80 airports in 25 states. “Airport infrastructure projects funded by this $335 million in federal funding will advance safety, improve travel, generate jobs and provide other economic benefits for local communities,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao. The total includes $300 million from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and $35 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act grants to equal a 100 percent federal share.

Airplane Collided With The East Face Of A Storage Building In A Densely Populated Area

On August 28, 2020, about 0902 eastern daylight time, an Aero Commander Aircraft 500-S, N900DT, was destroyed when it impacted a building near Pembroke Park, Florida. The commercial pilot and pilot-rated passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 business flight. AD: Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Limited Helicopters

AD 2020-19-05 Prompted By A Report Of A Bearing That Migrated Out Of The Swashplate Inner Ring

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Limited (Bell) Model 505 helicopters. This AD requires inspecting each swashplate assembly bearing (bearing), and depending on the inspection results, removing the bearing from service. This AD was prompted by a report of a bearing that migrated out of the swashplate inner ring. The actions of this AD are intended to address an unsafe condition on these products. This AD becomes effective October 8, 2020.

AD 2020-18-20 Prompted By Reports Of Abrasion Strips Departing The Main Rotor (MR) Blade In-Flight

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain MD Helicopters Inc. (MDHI) Model 369A, 369D, 369E, 369FF, 369H, 369HE, 369HM, 369HS, 500N, and 600N helicopters. This AD was prompted by reports of abrasion strips departing the main rotor (MR) blade in-flight. This AD requires tap inspecting each MR blade leading edge abrasion strip. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective October 28, 2020.

Contaminated Runway A runway is considered contaminated whenever standing water, ice, snow, slush, frost in any form, heavy rubber, or other substances are present. A runway is contaminated with respect to rubber deposits or other friction-degrading substances when the average friction value for any 500-foot segment of the runway within the ALD fails below the recommended minimum friction level and the average friction value in the adjacent 500-foot segments falls below the maintenance planning friction level.
