The House of Representatives has published initial language to reauthorize funding for the FAA. A move to privatize the ATC system is causing widespread concern among aviation groups and pilots nationwide. Our friend, Jonathan Rupprecht has furnished a few observations of interest to the drone community. Following Wednesday’s release of the language proposed by the US House of Representatives, a consortium of general aviation groups has provided united opposition to the legislation introduced by Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pennsylvania). The latest documentation includes provisions, again, to turn the nation's air traffic control infrastructure and services to a privatized, non-profit board dominated by commercial aviation interests. U.S. Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Bill Nelson (D-FL), who respectively serve as the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, along with Sens. Japan Coast Guard Orders Three Additional H225 Helicopters

New Purchase Will Bring Total JCG H225 Fleet To Nine Units

 Airbus Helicopters has been awarded a contract from the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) for the purchase of three additional H225s. This new order will bring the JCG’s total H225 fleet to nine units by February 2020. The JCG already placed an order for a sixth H225 in 2016, which will be delivered in 2018.

GECAS Plans to Convert An Additional 30 737-800s To Freighters

Program Was Launched In 2015

GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) is planning to convert a further 30 Boeing 737-800s into freighters. GECAS launched the 737-800 freighter program with Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) in 2015 and Boeing in 2016. Since then GECAS has provided each program with a prototype aircraft for modification at separate conversion facilities in Miami and Shanghai.
