Pan Am 103 Bomber To Be Released From Scottish Prison

Authorities Cite Humanitarian Concerns Related To Prostate Cancer

Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, who is the only person convicted in the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, is being released from prison on compassionate grounds following a diagnosis of terminal prostate cancer. Doctors say he may have only three months to live.

The Indiana man who bailed out of a Piper PA46 Malibu and allowed it to crash in an attempt to fake his own death was sentenced Wednesday to 51 months in a federal prison, and ordered to pay more than $34,000 in restitution to the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as $871,000 to the lien holder on the plane.
