Pilot Lost In Pennsylvania RV-10 Downing

Subie-Powered Aircraft Completed Last Year

Aero-News has gathered information regarding the Friday morning loss of a single-engine RV-10 homebuilt aircraft (file photo of type shown below) near Greenville Municipal Airport (4G1) in Pennsylvania, that claimed the life of the lone pilot onboard.

Daniel R. Lloyd, 37, was killed when his RV-10, dubbed "Trish's Ride Home," crashed on a highway about 1.5 nautical miles from the airport, in the community of Greene Township near Jamestown. He had departed the field minutes earlier.

Witness Jim Owens told WTAE-4 he heard the plane's engine approaching, and knew something was wrong.

"When he turned and got what I thought was lined up with the airport, he still banked. When he went out of sight I knew he wasn't going to make it. I heard a thump and then I seen a plume of fire."

Lloyd built and registered his RV-10 last year, and flew the aircraft to AirVenture 2007 in Oshkosh. The aircraft was powered by an Engenfeller-coverted Subaru powerplant.

Investigators with the FAA and NTSB are on scene.
