In an age where the internet provides instant gratification for anyone, no matter how ill-informed, to display their aero-ignorance, it should come as no shock to anyone that the warbird community is taking some serious hits after the tragic Collings Foundation B-17 crash last week.

With the NTSB barely having gotten a start on the arduous task of investigation, some familiar anti-aviation names are popping up with instant judgements on the accident which took seven lives. One of the most egregious occurred as vocal media-hound Senator Richard Blumenthal, on the day of the accident, targeted the historic warbird community for stunningly premature criticism. The Bell 360 Invictus reportedly meets or exceeds all requirements as laid out under the FARA contract. The Bell 360 Invictus’ design is based on Bell’s 525 Relentless rotor system which has been tested and proven at speeds in excess of 200 Knots True AirSpeed (KTAS). By incorporating proven designs and the best available technologies from commercial and military programs, Bell delivers a low-risk path to a FARA program of record. It’s a first... The FAA has awarded air carrier and operator certification to a UAS delivery company, UPS Flight Forward. “This is a big step forward in safely integrating unmanned aircraft systems into our airspace, expanding access to healthcare in North Carolina and building on the success of the national UAS Integration Pilot Program to maintain American leadership in unmanned aviation,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
