Avidyne Announces TSO, STC Of v9.1 Software

Upgrade And New Features For Release 9 Integrated Flight Deck

For folks who have been waiting on the edge of their chairs for the Avidyne Release 9 IFD upgrade, the company said on Monday that they have received both a TSO and an STC for v9.1. The move provides authorization for installation of the upgrade into the existing fleet of R9-equipped aircraft.

"Release 9.1 is a significant product upgrade for our Entegra Release 9 Flight Deck, and our R9 customers will really appreciate the new features and product improvements that have been incorporated," said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne's Chief Operating Officer.  "The FMS Preview feature is an innovative and time-saving feature that R9 pilots are going to really enjoy using, plus Release 9.1 adds many other product improvements, many of which were incorporated from early customer feedback."

Avidyne says along with the FMS Procedure Preview, some of those new features include FMS Map Center View and EVS. FMS Preview  makes it easy to visualize and select a desired airway, transition, approach, or initial approach fix. FMS Centered View is a fourth map view which centers the map on any selected waypoint in the flight plan.  Avidyne says the feature enables pilots to scroll through the flight plan and view the entire route of flight at a single range setting on the map, to get a better idea of the weather along the route.

The ability to fully implement EVS is still awaiting the appropriate third-party hardware STC. Avidyne says once that is complete, the EVS can be enabled as a paid upgrade in the field via software configuration.

"Avidyne is committed to making single-pilot IFR flying safer and easier, and Release 9.1 takes it a step further," said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne's President and CEO.  "Features like FMS Procedure Preview and FMS Map Center View increase safety by enabling pilots to easily preview their flight plan and any changes, thereby ensuring they are selecting exactly what they want without all the 'do-overs' associated with legacy navigators."
