Head Of Vietnam's CAA Attempts Suicide

Found As He Was Setting Himself On Fire

The former director of Vietnam's Central Aviation Airport Authority is hospitalized -- his condition unknown -- after he was spotted setting himself on fire over the weekend. Vietnam's state media said it's not certain whether Nguyen Lai will survive.

Lai was burned over 62-percent of his body, as flames burned his throat and lungs. State media reports said he was discovered pouring gasoline over himself and then igniting the fuel.

Lai had been suspended from his job as director of civil aviation in Vietnam after his employees discovered him scamming 24 billion Vietnamese dong ($1.5 million) in what government news reports called a land scam. He was also suspected of illegally buying two limousines.
